Last weekend, on Women’s Day, Sveta Jana Majorettes dedicated their 10th annual concert to the women who left their mark on history, but also to those who shape our lives every day. They opened a new museum filled with courage and love as a true artistic tribute to female strength. Through their dance, the majorettes paid tribute to the past, present, and future of those who changed the world with their actions.
The first scene on stage, in which the girls fought for equality as suffragettes, directly made it clear that this was a concert with a great message.
Each age group presented two significant, historical women from different areas of life. The children’s group embodied Marie Currie and our most successful skier Janica Kostelić with playful choreography. The Cadet B ensemble brought the passionate colors and emotions of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo to life on stage, and with their second performance, they took the audience to the Šuma Striborova by the famous Ivana Brlić Mažuranić. The cadets presented a woman whose name is still pronounced with admiration today – the powerful Cleopatra, while they performed the next dance act together with the junior ensemble, which depicted the symbolic struggles between ballet and modern dance, as a tribute to Isadora Duncan. The juniors also showed the innovative way in which women carry their freedom that changed the fashion icon, Coco Chanel. The senior ensemble also brought a touch of humor to the stage by embodying Teta Vegeta as a symbol and an indispensable part of every household.
The most emotional moment of the evening was the final performance of the senior girls dedicated to the most important women – mothers, because it is they who give their best every day to make the world a better place for their children.
Every year, individual girls receive special recognition from the Sveta Jana majorettes as a sign of gratitude for their efforts in their own and the progress of the entire association. These small but valuable recognitions reflect the effort and dedication that the girls put into every performance, training or event.
